I Greppi di Silli
The Greppi di Silli farm is located in the rolling hills between Florence and Siena and very near the villages of Saint Casciano and Mercatale.
The head of the family, Gianni Alfani, arrived in the area in 1934. Together with his young sons, through hard work and devotion they became landowners.
The farm is also an "Agritourismo" and boasts six beautiful apartments for your stay. The farm's products include not only extra virgin olive oils, but also wine and native honey.
The olive grove encompasses about 470 trees, among them are typical species of the the Tuscan region; Frantoio, Correggiolo, Moraiolo, Leccino, Leccio del Corno, Pendolino and Madonna dell' Impruneta. It was very exciting tasting some of these new species(cultivars) to us! The present owner, Michele Porcu gave us a real education, especially with his speciality of producing Monocultivar extra virgin olive oils. It is worth noting and remembering, "Monocultivar oil's sensory characteristics change every year with respect to the weather conditions, the maturity reached when the fruit is picked, and the choice of extracting method. To obtain the best and highest quality, they take their olives to the pressing mill within 4 -6 hours after picking!"
