Last fall, Extra Virgin Olio by Madge and Louie’s hosted a very small, intimate group on a tour of Cilento. The tour was lead by our very own, Johnny Madge and this area has always been one of Johnny’s favorite places to vacation with his family.
We spent a delightful week visiting the Salerno area, just south of Naples to explore wineries, olive oil mills and fine restaurants.
Visiting the small village of Serre, in the hills of the province of Salerno we met Antonino Mennella and his family, the owners of Madonna dell’Olivo. Here our group found a small, perhaps boutique olive oil mill equipped with excellent Mori machinery, tucked into the picturesque hillsides of this beautiful area of Italy.
Antonino, a Professor of Geology has a passion for growing olives and uses his scientific background to grow a variety of cultivars, understand how they adapt to their environment, and is consistently producing some of the finest extra virgin olive oils in all of Italy!
Madge and Louie’s are very fortunate to be able to bring you two of his extra virgins; Itran’s, an intense and flavorful Itrana and the monovarietal, Rotondella, a robust and even more intense extra virgin olive oil!
